A fire broke  out in a residential area in Quezon    City last December 13, leaving 500 families homeless.

The blaze, which reached the fifth alarm, destroyed several houses
mostly made of light materials in Barangay Tagumpay, Project 4.
According to witnesses, the fire started at a squatter’s area inside
Century Compound at the corner of 5th Avenue and P. Tuazon Street.
There were no initial reports of casualties.

Firefighters said they had a hard time reaching the area because of the
narrow passageways. They said they had to tie hoses together just to
reach the burning houses.

Initial  reports reveal, the fire was caused by an unattended candle.

The
residents said they were not able to save their belongings because the
fire spread out quickly. Right now, the residents who lost their homes
are staying at the barangay health center.
